A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Davis is an alumnus of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where he graduated with honors receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education.  Dr. Davis has received numerous accolades in recent years including two U.S. Congressional Records of Exemplary Service and Dedication, two city and county proclamations naming a day after Dr. Davis, and numerous U.S. and Florida Senate recognitions for exemplary educational leadership.  He is the 2012 Broward County Teacher of the year, the 2012 Florida Teacher of the year, and in April of 2012 he was honored by President Obama at the White House for being named a finalist for National Teacher of the Year.

 

Dr. Davis' other associations include The National Education Association, The American Federation of Teachers, Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education.  He has been a board member of the Florida Education Foundation, the Chairmen of two teacher task forces for the Florida Commissioner of Education and the Superintendent of Schools in Broward County, a panel guest for the Board of Governors Higher Education Coordinating Council and the U.S. Department of Education’s RESPECT project.  From 2014-2015 Mr. Davis was a Program Specialist at the Florida Department of Education where he provided technical assistance to schools, district's and consortiums to enhance their capacity to plan and implement improvements in the evaluation systems used to impact the quality of instruction and school leadership. Additional work included coordinating and supporting communities of practice through district professional learning communities focused on teacher deliberate practice principal observations and feedback.

 

More than anything, Dr. Davis cherishes being a loving father and dedicated husband.  He has completed graduate work at Florida Atlantic University’s Digital Education Teacher Academy, earned a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at Florida A&M University.
